Let me start off by saying that online business is not for everybody. Why do I say so? It is because, the failure rate and competition is very high. Making money online with your website, is not a get rich quick scheme.
Two years ago I started working on a part time basis, making money online with my websites. Today I'm full-time in business and have a seo company. It took a lot of hard work and dedication to be successful. If I can do it then you can also do it. :)
Can anyone make money with an information website?
Yes, anyone can make money online. The keys are... hard work, dedication and not to give up. Another important fact is that you have to act upon your dreams, ideas etc. A lot of people have lots of ideas, but they never do it.
Where do you start to make money online with an information website?
You can start with a topic that you are passionate about. If you love dogs and have lots of experience with them, then start an information site about dogs. You simply just write about your passions in life.
Do I need products or services?
No, you don't need your own products or services, but you can promote other people's stuff on your website(s)
I have personally earned thousands of dollars by simply having a couple of information websites

What investments should I make to start an information website?
If you study business management then these two investments always pops up.
Time
Time is important, because you will have to invest lots of your time (research, learning ...) in your online venture. It will take time for your online business to be established. It will also take time for your website to rank high in the search engines and make money.
If it means for you to sacrifce your time after hous, weekends, public holidays etc. Do it. You must enjoy what you are doing. It should not be a burden to you.
Money
Money is important, because you can build a quality website with a financial investment. However you can also make a website 100% free, but there might be restrictions and other loop holes. Free is not always best.
You don't have to spend a lot of money to become a successful webpreneur like myself. Some of my websites beat sites that spends thousands of dollars.
Free search engine traffic
For people to find your website on the www (world wide web) your website will have to generate some free search engine traffic. Remember there are millions of other sites just like yours, that are competing to get the top spots in the search engines.
You will have to lay a good solid foundation for your website and invest in some seo, link building etc.
I personally did a lot of research and managed to work out a formula that works for me. Any site that I work on, get good search engine results.
You also get paid search options e.g. Google adwords. You pay and bid with other sites to get a top spot in search engine SERPs (search engine results pages). These listing are called sponsores site by Google.
I personally prefer organic search engine traffic that is free. :)
Stay informed
The internet is constantly evolving, so it will be a good idea to stay up to date with the latest technology news and trends. Sign up with some news letters, go to tech news sites, blogs .... Keep on reading and learning new things.
Be aware what is going on around you, especially in the internet field.
Keep on adding new articles and constantly improve your site.
Will I make big bucks?
There is no guarantee that you are going to make big bucks. Remember your initial earning will be small, but it can grow, depending on how many time and resources you put in.
The first money I made online was a couple of cents. I had to start somewhere. :)

First of all you need to get free organic search engine traffic. The way to get this is to write lots of articles that you are passionate about and apply some on page seo. Your objective should be to get your site in the top 10 search engine (Google, Yahoo, MSN / Live) results pages. If you have a very popular keyword in the top 10 then you can make lots of money by using affiliate programs.

There are a lot of different types of affiliate programs e.g. Clickbank, Google Adsense, Kontera, Amazon ... etc.
The most popular and biggest affiliate program is Google Adsense.

Google AdSense is a PPC (pay per click) product owned by Google. This is an ideal and esasy way for you to make money from your website. Google display simple text and image ads on your website that are targeted to the content that you have on your webpages. People visit your site and they will see the ads on your web pages. When you visitor click on an ad then you will get paid for that click. Your click earnings will be added up till the minimum threshold of $100 and then you will receive a check from Google. I have personally made money on a consistent basis, with Google Adsense program on my websites.

You have build a successful business that you can be proud of. You fulfilled one of your dreams and ideas.
You generate passive income. Imagine laying on the beach or travelling the world and still make money. I lay on the beach and earn money daily.
You will work very hard and long hours in the beginning of your online business. Later on you don't have to work such a lot because the hard work has already been done.
